Hamdel Ensemble
The Hamdel Ensemble is an acclaimed contemporary Persian Sufi music ensemble featuring professional musicians & scholars of Persian Sufi traditions who have performed worldwide. Formed in Iran in 1997, Hamdel gathers & adapts traditional Persian Folk & Sufi music; sharing its unique language, culture & history, using Iranian & Western instruments to perform breathtakingly beautiful music for global audiences.
Hamdel is led by Seyed Ali Jaberi, a highly acclaimed, Manchester-based Iranian musician & composer.
He has directed music performances, toured internationally & is considered an authority on Sufi music in Iran. After coming to the UK, Seyed Ali re-established the Hamdel Ensemble performing at sell out shows at RNCM (2017) & HOME (2018).
Seyed Ali is two times winner of Tanbour performance at the Fajr (Iranian equivalent to the Grammies). He has released 5 albums; 2 of which received 4 star reviews in Songlines; Psalms of Loneliness, 2010 + All Be-cause of Love, released with Hamdel, 2018. Ensemble member, Mohammed Jaberi is 17 times winner of The Lohe Eftekhar Music Award & Diploma Eftekhar from the Iranian Society, Canada. From 2015-18 Seyed Ali has performed in 60 international concerts including notable performances with British-Iranian singer-songwriter, Sami Yusuf (known as the biggest British star in the Middle East) & renowned Iranian singer, Sina Sarlak who performed with Hamdel @ RNCM in 2017.
In 2019 Seyed Ali & Hamdel will accompany distinguished Iranian traditional singer, Shahram Nazeri. Seyed Ali will also play with world famous Indian composer, AR Rahman in a televised performance in New Delhi. Seyed Ali & Hamdel have worked with established UK arts organisations /venues including CAN, HOME & RNCM.
